Sandnes Garn: Scandinavia's Leading Hand-Knitting Yarn Producer
Sandnes Garn is proud to be Scandinavia's largest manufacturer of hand-knitting yarn. The state-of-the-art spinning mill is among the most advanced worldwide and is one of the oldest still-operating factories in Norway. After the devastating fire at the Vågen factory in 1978, it was rebuilt outside the city, nestled in the surrounding mountainous landscape. Annually, about 14 million skeins of yarn leave their production facility, contributing to knitting enjoyment worldwide.
Before popular yarn types like Peer Gynt and Fritidsgarn are available in cities such as Oslo, Uppsala, Aarhus, Helsinki, Reykjavik, New York, Montreal, or Torshavn, they undergo a long journey. This journey begins with the wool of Norwegian sheep and includes washing, carding, spinning, and plying, followed by skeining, dyeing, and winding the skeins. Sandnes places great importance on protecting people and animals at every step of their production processes. This includes adhering to the highest animal welfare standards and promoting well-being and a pleasant working environment.
The design department regularly draws inspiration from international colors, trends, and cuts. Additionally, Sandnes occasionally collaborates with fashion designers from around the world to create trendsetting and style-defining designs. This fosters a continuous, creative dialogue.
